Visiting
Individuals can visit people in detention. We have many people in detention who request a visitor from the community. We provide initial training and ongoing support for people who wish to visit.
Visiting someone in detention is a way to show them that people in the Australian community care about them and their situation. We receive feedback from asylum seekers, service providers, DIAC and Serco about how important it is that people get visits from the community. As one man told us:
" please tell all the people who visit someone how much importance this is. When i knew someone was coming every week and we could talk about anything, or just sit together, and i could be with someone from outside, it made my long days more bearable. You do not know how much it means to us"
Please let us know if you are interested in coming to our next visitor training night which will be in the new year.
