T-shirt competition!
October 2011
For the second year running MyNT and DASSAN collaborated on a T-shirt design competition for school aged children to raise awareness of young asylum seekers in detention. The event was supported by NAPCAN as part of National Child Protection Week. The initiative was a great success, with entries coming from the wider public, primary schools, and with a number of entries from young people in detention. Thank you to Life Without Barriers for supporting the entries from young people held in detention.
The T-shirts were launched at the DASSAN awareness raising event at Happy Yess held on October 14th and again the following week the T-shirts were again announced and presented at the 10 year commemoration of the SievX tragedy, held by DASSAN at Groove Cafe in Nightcliff on October 19. The T-shirts are now being distributed by DASSAN at various stalls raising awareness about young people in detention.
Thank you to all the young people who entered their wonderful designs into the competition!
MyNT looks forward to working with DASSAN in future to engage the wider public in discussions about young people in detention utilising creative means.
